Kwesi Monologue
Hello! My name is Kwesi. I am 15 years old, and I am in the fourth form at the local school in Kamuli. I go to the telecenter to play soccer outside, and video games on the computers.
Sometimes there’s a health quiz on the computer and if we find the answers we get free time on the computers or a free snack in the courtyard.
They also show soccer matches there. Before the game, sometimes they have a short advertisement about health. I liked the last one, because it was David Beckham talking about mosquito nets and malaria.
From one of the quizes, I know 25-40% of all medical visits in Uganda are because of malaria. When I grow up, I’m going to Makarere University to become a doctor and help people who have malaria and other diseases get better.
Intel Guy monologue
Hi, I’m Intel Guy from the Digital Health Group at intel. My group’s overarching goal is to uncover new ways technology can address health care challenges in developing countries. One of our projects is the Community Health Ecosystem Support project, or CHES, a program we’re piloting in Uganda.
Our main goals were to help users access and navigate health information on the Web or via a dedicated health kiosk, to offer continuing education for local health professionals, and to allow locals to connect remotely with medical professionals from health centers too far away for them to physically visit.
I came to the Stanford Learning Design Student and her team to get some ideas on how to accomplish these goals.
