Checkoff
In the early hours of the Friday, March 10th morning, our team felt comfortable with a mulligan attempt. Unfortunately, our free checkoff attempt was unsuccessful. Further, the teaching staff made a new requirement upon seeing Gwen's intentionally see-saw weight balancing. Since Gwen was designed to only ever have weight on two wheels and one ball caster at a time, there was a chance that the ball caster used to activate the Fact Checker was not actually hitting it. So, they pulled out a computer to obtain a real-time pressure sensor reading. But our team pressed on. At 4:30 am, we tried again with our first checkoff attempt, made it through, and Gwen's mission in this world was complete.
COmpetition
After weeks of preparation and training, Gwen finally geared up for the big day. She had a few good test runs, but something started to go wrong with the right side of her drive system only an hour before the competition. We tried to figure it out, but without success. We charged her up and hoped for the best. During her first match she succeeded in taking the first tower, then had several narrow misses on the second tower. She came back to reload, but an unknown problem caused her to veer slightly as she was approaching the wall behind the safe space. She reached the wall at an angle, causing her ultrasonic sensors to be misaligned such that the conditions were not met for realizing that the wall had been reached. Unfortunately, poor Gwen spent the remaining minute and a half attempting to continue driving into the wall. The opponent robot had managed to make a few shots in the second tower before it, too, got stuck - leaving Gwen defeated. Oh well, at least she tried!
