COURSE DESCRIPTION
MS&E 238 focuses on the new trends and disruptive technologies in IT (Information Technology). Emphasis is given to the way technologies create a competitive edge and generate business value. A broad range of views is presented by guest speakers, including entrepreneurs, analysts, and IT executives of Fortune 1000 companies. This year the course will have a special emphasis in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and big data.
Topics Include:
- Cloud computing: Infrastructure, Platform and Software as a Service (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS)
- Mobile computing: Smartphone and tablet technologies including Android and iOS
- Artifilial Intelligence: Machine learning and deep neural nets
- Big Data
- Security
- Technology overviews and demos
- Market analysis
- Business models and ecosystem
Intended Audience: Students and graduates of different
backgrounds (engineering, business or other) interested in
understanding the broader aspects of the trends shaping the IT
industry, which transcend conventional specialized course
offerings.
Prerequisites: A basic knowledge of Information
Technology (computer software and hardware).
