This color drawing by Hovey-Kelley engineer Douglas Dayton was one of many he made of the mouse; several (now unfortunately lost) were quite whimsical. This drawing, which shows the different parts of an Apple mouse prototype (note that the shape of the mouse and key-- later called the button-- are different from either Lisa or Macintosh mouse), was sometimes recopied as a black-and-white picture, and given captions explaining its component parts.
