Meetings.
Present: Bill Cockayne, Chris F. Dickhaus, David Platt, Jin Tsutoba, Chris Witmore, Peter Wolff, Deborah Yun (debs).
Progress Reports:
Jin:
- Interested in looking at effects of the so-called "Echo Boom" (second generation of Babyboomers' children).
- No luck on the interviews with parking valets, yet.
- Question 1 : is the focus of the project just America?
- Peter Wolff -- Yes.
- Bill Cockayne -- But complicated by issues of cultural identity within the United States, e.g. Asian-American, Euro-American, Latino-American. Suggested that it might be useful to see what's out there ...
- Question 2 : Are we interested in looking at all of DaimlerChrysler's brands, or just Chrysler?
- Peter Wolff -- Yes, the project's results should be applicable across all brands. "Meanings" of the brands will not change much over time (ideally).
Prompts further discussion of research design, covered in RTNA Meeting Notes, June 8. Emphasizes 4-5 scenarios (see five scenarios for 2015), knowledge of trends (disruptive technologies, pop culture). Here's the presentation that I showed during the meeting (it's already on the Contract Meeting page, but link repeated for convenience):
debs:
David Platt:
- Had to leave meeting at 4:30 so didn't get to present results to group.
- Added several more companies to survey of online customization of cars (including DC's Smart Car and PT Cruiser) and will soon add information about the Scion, Honda Civic, and Toyota Prius. Size of images probably means that the page will have to split into several pages very shortly.
- No progress yet on "cars and celebrities." Comes under aspirational aspects of car culture.
- No results yet on cars and celebrities

David Platt: Let me know, if there are any problems with my representation of events, here. Does anyone have anything to add?
