September 2012: Project Participants Gather at Stanford

Participants in the Project from Asia and North America gathered at Stanford to share research on the railroad workers and to discuss prospects for future collaboration. The group included professors of American Studies, History, Literature, Anthropology/Archaeology, and translations studies, as well as community historians, artists, and independent scholars.  They came from Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Lubbock, Newark, New York, Palo Alto, Providence,  San Francisco, Stanford and Taipei.

Scholars from the U.S., Canada, and Asia who met at Stanford in September, 2012 to brainstorm about strategies for recovering the experiences of the Chinese workers whose work was essential to the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.
