Chinese After the Golden Spike: Sources on Chinese building the San Joaquin Spur

Continuing historical searching by Robert Barzin at the Modesto Art Museum has yielded a narrative with primary sources on the Chinese railroad workers who continued to build railroads after May 1869. After the transcontinental line, and after also completing the Western Pacific Railroad from Sacramento to the Oakland Pier in November 1869, evidence points to crews of Chinese graders, track layers, carpenters, masons, blacksmiths, and cooks working on both the California and Oregon Railroad and the San Joaquin Valley Railroad to Modesto.
