Railroaded

The original Hart photograph captures the nearly incredible amount of manual labor necessary to create the roadbed through the mountains. Notice the Chinese workers with wheelbarrows in the background.

 

The modern photograph shows the same chalky cliffs in the background that gave the site its name.
