At a widening in the Via del Corso, labeled "Piazza di Sciarra" on the Nolli map, Vasi depicts the paired palazzi belonging to the Sciarra Colonna di Carbognano. The formal, late Renaissance Palazzo Colonna di Sciarra on the right was obviously the principal residence, while the lower palace or Abbitazioni per la Famiglia (1) next to it was for the use of the "famiglia," that is, the retinue of artisans and servants attached to the Sciarra family. This 17th century building extended over the Arco di Carbognano (2) spanning the street next to it, the Via delle Muratte (4) which, as Vasi notes, leads to the Fontana di Trevi, Plate 104. The view continues with a foreshortened perspective of the Corso, terminating at the obelisk in Piazza del Popolo with the Porta del Popolo (3) just visible beyond it. Facing us on the corner of Vicolo dell'Archetto (now known as Via di Pietra) is the early 17th century Palazzo Guelfi Camajano (NN 318). Beyond it, a break in the shadows cast on the Corso indicates the position of Piazza Colonna, Plate 22.
