Imago Urbis: Giuseppe Vasi's Grand Tour of Rome

129a.   [Chiesa di S. Maria del Rosario sul Monte Mario, e Convento dei PP. Domenicani]

  1. Chiesa di S. Maria del Rosario sul Monte Mario Convento dei PP. Domenicani
  2. Cappella del SS. Crocefisso e Villa Mellini

Two kilometers (one and one quarter miles) from the city walls along the Via Trionfale, and not far from the summit of Monte Mario, is the mid 17th century church of S. Maria del Rosario (1). Nothing remains of the Chapel of the Crucifix (2) though the adjacent Villa Mellini (building not visible in this print) survives today as Rome's astronomical observatory.
