Because of their genetic makeup, damselflies have the ability to evolve rapidly and adapt to climate-driven changes in their environment. Genes that govern heat tolerance and vision, for example, may help them cope with extreme temperatures and hurdles in finding food and mates as their populations shift to novel areas.
