Latest: Check out pics from our engagement party.
Engagement (abridged version) Nikesh planned an east coast visit the last weekend of January 2005 for what Masumi thought was a belated celebration of her birthday. On Saturday January 29th he surprised her by booking the celebrity chef series package at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. (…at the time of this surprise didn’t dawn on Masumi that the Fairmont Copley Plaza was the place of their first date…way back on March 28th, 1998 where they attended the Boston University College of Engineering Spring Social…) That afternoon, they participated in a fun 3-hour 3-course cooking demonstration by the executive chef of the Fairmont DC. Later that night, when walking around Back Bay, they “somehow” ended up at the near the very same reflecting pool where they talked the night away after the Spring Social ended. Engagement (Masumi's somewhat unabridged version) Nikesh emailed me in mid-January 2005 saying that he found a cheap ticket and was going to visit me the last weekend in January since we hadn’t spent my birthday, which took place earlier in the month, together. Despite being sick and tired from attending a 2-day business meeting in New York immediately after returning from a 2-week study abroad program in India, I was happy to make a third trip to the airport that week to pick Nikesh up. We spent that Friday at home since I was too tired to do anything else. On Saturday, we actually made it into Boston for the “fieldtrip” that was supposed to happen when he was visiting the prior December. He surprised me by booking the celebrity chef series package at the Fairmont Copley Plaza. We saw a 3-hour 3-course cooking demonstration by the executive chef of the Fairmont DC. It was a lot of fun, even though steak was part of the main course… Later that afternoon, we walked around the Copley / Back Bay area, picked up a bottle of wine, and headed back to the hotel to decide what to do for dinner. Well, after 2 glasses of wine I fell asleep watching Pirates of the Caribbean (remember I’m sick…not that much of a lightweight). Nikesh, being the “nice” person that he is, would not let me sleep and tried to convince me that we should go out to dinner. Nearly an hour later, I grudgingly agreed (room service would have been fine with me). By that time, most restaurants were closed or were about to close. Somehow we ended up by the reflecting pool (near the Christian Science Center), which happened to be where we ended up after our first date (BU College of Engineering “Spring Social” @ the Fairmont Copley Plaza on March 27, 1998). After continued threats to throw me in the snow and a few side “when we’re married…” comments, he asked me to marry him! Of course I said “YES”, so now we’re engaged and soon to be married!! |
