Design Entrepreneuring Studio

  VISION

The Design Entrepreneuring Studio was launched in August of 2009 in the Center for Design Research. Currently based within the Mechanical Engineering-Design Group, in the School of Engineering at Stanford University, we aim to give people the scientifically proven methodology to guide themselves into developing something new. From a teaching and research focus we study and develop ways to tell stories, make artifacts, and engage with others to move a project forward. Our work in the lab is a blend of design thinking and organizational practice within the frames of psychology, engineering, and art. We form existing methodologies based on the documented and pictured reflections of the group. From an industry focus we are able to practice and explore solutions for new and unarticulated problems. We apply findings from our teaching and research to deliver a functional impact for inventive action: the prototyping behaviors for finding the solution to an old problem or finding the solution to a problem you didn’t know you had. Our team is comprised of researchers, instructors, and industry leaders who share a deep belief and expertise in designing and entrepreneuring. Our goal is to be a globally recognized center that uses story as the form to help engineers, designer, and leaders make connections and real progress across the stages of their projects.
