To make it easier to vibecode on your machine, and to provide some additional safety guardrails beyond what the basic tools offer, we've created a development environment you can install on your machine for vibecoding. This document provides instructions on how to download and install it, how to log in to the tools, and how to troubleshoot issues that arise.
Installing the Environment
We support the following platforms. If your computer's platform isn't on the list, contact the course staff.
- Windows 10+
- macOS
- Ubuntu 24.04+
- Fedora GA
- Debian 13+ (trixie or later)

Running the Development Environment
Once you've installed the development environment, you can run the environment on your machine using the standard idioms:
- macOS: Press ⌘+SPACE, type "CS193V Development Environment," and choose the icon for the environment.
- Windows: Press ⊞ to open the Start Menu, type "CS193V Development Environment," and choose the icon for the environment.
- Linux: Open a terminal and type
cd ~/cs193v && ./cs193v.
