What is Harry Potter?

Harry Potter is a book series written by J.K Rowling. There is also a movie series based on the books. The series is about a boy, Harry Potter, who has magical abilities and is a wizard. Harry Potter attends a wizarding school called “Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry.” In Hogwarts, we meet different people, such as Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, and professor Snape. In the series, Harry often goes against Lord Voldemort, the antagonist in the novel. Lorde Voldemort, is an evil wizard who is trying to kill Harry, overthrow the wizarding government, and become immortal. Overall, in the novel, Harry and friends often go through journeys and quests in order to defeat Voldemort and save the day.

The Harry Potter series is one of the most popular and successful book/movie series. People all over the world have become fans of the series; some even call themselves “potterheads”. Harry Potter is the best-selling book series of all time. Internationally, the book has sold over 500 million copies, and has been translated into 80 languages. The series is such a success that there is even a shop in Manhattan dedicated to it.

Harry Potter is a “fantasy” book due to the plot of the story. Throughout the novel, we witness the main character, Harry Potter, grow up. The book includes many themes such as coming of age, power, and death. The series has had a big cultural impact on society. Harry Potter influenced sports, scientific names, slang, art, etc.
