Do you own a car? Yes, of course. What kind? Ford F150, 4-door

Do you like it? Yes, though gas is beginning to cost a lot.

Why did you choose this car? Cost, low-mileage, four door, hauling, variety of uses, freedom and flexibility in work

What is your favorite automobile? 55 Chevy Belair, the lines of it, it was a good car, owned one in 63 and 64. Nostalgia I guess, it was my first car.

Do you look for the same things in a car that you did twenty years ago? 20 years ago, we looked for room in a car. We needed space for the kids.

Now of course I can buy what I want, though we still have a sedan for the family and children. Today I am also looking for space and an entertainment system for the grandkids. I also appreciate individual temperature controls and heated seats, lumbar supports, arm rests, seatbelt and driving comfort.

What do you do in your car? Drive to see friends, family, grandkids. Don’t use the phone that much, but air conditioning is a must.

What kind of work do you do in your car? Because I am retired I mainly do yard work, errands, I also do mission carpenter work for the church and, of course I enjoy going hunting and fishing.

Could you use any addition technology with your hunting and fishing trips? GPS would be very useful but the good systems still need to come down in price. I prefer voice activation and hands free controls.

Where do you live? What use to be the country, nothing but farms, and now it looks more like the suburbs.

How does the car connect to who you are as a person? It’s my space; a place where I can get away.

Do your attitudes or emotions change when you drive? I get road rage occasionally

Do you take calls in your car? When I have to.

Do you listen to music? Radio? Do you use CDs? Do you have an MP3 player? Radio mainly, CDs occasionally.

How much time do you spend in your car? (per day) Does this change on weekends? Average 45 to hour. On the weekend 1.5 to 2

Where are you going next weekend? To the American Legion’s veterans fair in a town roughly half an hour drive away.

Where are you going on your next vacation? Probably to the beach for deep-sea fishing. I always pack my own rod and real in the car. Last time the family traveled in several cars. We traveled with my oldest son and my wife and the grandkids. The grandkid watch DVD’s the whole way down. They usually fall asleep in from of the TV.

How do you travel when you go to NASCAR events? We drive to 2 races a year. One is 50 miles away and the other 145 miles. We often travel as groups with 4 or more in a car.

What do you do during the drive? We often discuss NASCAR. We remember the previous race.

Do you take cameras? We do carry video cameras and it would be great to have screens in the car to watch such footage.

Why do you watch NASCAR? Enjoy racing, competition, 40years ago pulled for the car make of the car. Could buy the car on the track.

Today one pulls for the driver. Cars aren’t the same.

Has your interest in NASCAR had any effect on what you want in a car? 40 years ago, yes. You could buy the same engines. It’s not the same today.

The cars do not come close to what’s on the track today.
