Ultrasonic Head Controlled Wheelchair
Interface
|
Description: The Ultrasonic Head Controlled Wheelchair Interface
enables high level quadriplegics to wirelessly control their mobility. The user
operates the device by tilting his or her head forward or backward, left or
right -movements analogous to manipulating a joystick. The generated electronic
control signals from the calculated head position mimic those produced by a
joystick to drive the wheelchair.
Milestone: Technology Transfer efforts are proceeding with a large
health care company that is introducing a new powered wheelchair. The company
wishes to include ultrasonic head control interface technology in this
high-tech mobility product. Several meetings between the company and RR&D
have taken place, but further technology transfer progress for this interface
will occur after FDA approval for the wheelchair is received.
