A stroke occurs when a rupture or blood clot reduces blood
flow to an area of the brain, killing brain cells and disrupting the abilities
or functions they control. Many survivors experience weakness and poor
coordination, which impairs their ability to walk and use their hands. We
employ a variety of experimental and computer modeling techniques to study
coordination in healthy individuals and impaired coordination in individuals
who have suffered stroke. We use the results to develop more effective
rehabilitation therapies for restoring lost function after stroke.
