Investigator: Douglas F. Schwandt, MS Project Staff: David A. Brown, PhD, PT; James H. Anderson, JEM; Eric L. Topp, MS; Brian Spitz; and Stan Hanel Project Category: Stroke - 2000 Tiltcycle III, an improved version of the Tilting Cycle Ergometer used in the completed Graded Weight-Bearing Exercise Merit Review project was designed and fabricated as part of a Sharing Agreement between Northwestern University School of Medicine, Programs in Physical Therapy and the Palo Alto VA Rehabilitation R&D Center. An improved 6-axis force and moment measuring pedal was designed and incorporated on the device featuring a commercial sensor, significantly reducing the cost and improving performance over previous instrumented pedals. An increased range of backboard sliding motion was included to accommodate both shorter and taller subjects. The frame and crank bearing assembly are configured for future implementation of an alternative motorized crank resistance and drive. The delivery of Tilt III to Northwestern University signifies the completion of the first Sharing Agreement between the Rehab R&D Center and an outside institution.
