Chiesa dei SS. Silvestro, e Martino a Monti, e Convento dei PP. Carmelitani

In a caption flanking this view Vasi explains that he chose to show the apse of the 9th century church of S. Martino because of certain sacred images located there. However it is no doubt the case that he also intended to emphasize this aspect of the church as this was the side from which one usually entered. A short street led from where this view was taken on the busy Via Suburrana (NN 57) (see Plates 143, 127A for nearby views of the same street) to the Renaissance door which in turn leads to the side aisle shown on the left in this print. The main facade of the church opened on to Via delle Sette Sale, a quiet country lane at the time.
