The early Baroque S. Egidio (1) by an unknown architect, represents an early example of a group of similar small churches where giant-order pilasters frame a unified facade scheme which plays down the different levels implied by the door and the surmounting window, Plates 106, 111, 144. S. Egidio's convent building was built over a section of the ancient Via Aurelia Vetus, Trastevere's main street running along the flank of S. Maria in Trastevere, Plate 60. At the end of the street we see the right transept of that church (2) with a medieval arch over the door, which appears to be already walled up in Vasi's day. A corner of the late 15th century Palazzo Velli (3) is visible at the left edge of the print.
