As the syndrome progresses, nerve damage occurs due to the continued compression. Tingling in spots gives way to numbness. Areas innervated by damaged parts of the median nerve lose sensation. Some may experience sharp pains shooting from the wrist up the arm, traveling backwards up the median nerve.
