CTS manifests itself in many ways. The disease can be quite mild to quite severe. Symptoms can disappear spontaneously without treatment. However, if persistent symptoms are left untreated, CTS can progress to fairly serious stages, resulting in permanent nerve damage and muscle loss. Although rare, CTS has been known to cause what is effectively loss of use of the hands.
