Impact is imparting the power of knowledge, not simply the knowledge itself.

Know Your Planet

Many of the most pressing problems facing humanity today involve Earth and its resources. It is important that we educate students about the planet they live on, as well as how to sustain it for their lifetime and future generations. Learn more about the courses I have taught as part of the Know Your Planet series below.

SUSTAIN 1A: Research Frontiers

Students discover the leading efforts to ask and answer critical questions about our planet. From the geologic processes that shape our continents, to the origins of the energy sources we rely on, and the consequences of our changing climate.

SUSTAIN 1B: Earth in the Laboratory

One of the most important ways to learn about the world is to test it. This class takes students into cutting edge research laboratories to understand why observations in the lab are at the heart of scientific discovery.

SUSTAIN 1D: Big Earth

Data science in the Earth sciences. This course provides an introduction to Big Data and its applications in solving global challenges such as meeting global energy needs, food and water security, climate change, and natural hazards.

Find Your Future

No matter what discipline you are in or career goals you have, I want to prepare you to be successful. I help students develop powerful portfolios that include academic excellence, professional skills, and social intelligence. Learn more about courses I have developed and teach with campus partners below.

SUSTAIN 200A: Your Professional Development

This course starts the process of career planning and development early. From navigating career uncertainty to thoughtful self-assessment, resume building, negotiation, and managing up, this course builds a solid foundation from which students can explore their long-term career goals.

SUSTAIN 200P: Professional Development Practicum

Developing a strong portfolio of skills and tools takes resources and partners. This practicum enables students to explore and develop a specific component of their professional portfolio with instructor support.

SUSTAIN 200B: Your Personal Development

Success in both professional and personal life requires emotional, financial, and social intelligence. This course builds on those soft skills from understanding emotional intelligence and living well under pressure, to conflict resolution and financial literacy.
