2.5.5 Impressions
An "impression" is an emotively charged encounter with an element of the outside world—for example, the hawthorns in Swann's Way. In the ideal case, impression gives rise to expression, in the form of writing. In JS the distinction between impression and involuntary memory is not yet clearly marked; it's possible that all impressions here are involuntary memories in disguise.
