STARTING A CLUB

Starting an elementary school math or science club is a great way to give back to your community, have fun with younger kids, and show them just how cool math and science can be. (check out the "club highlight" page for an example!) But say this sounds like something you'd like to do. You may be wondering, "How do I actually start a club?" Or, "What exactly is involved in starting and running a club? What details to I need to worry about?"

The goal of this page is give you a step-by-step, easy to follow guide to starting an elementary-school level math or science club, and various things you may want to think about along the way. The guide is organized as follows:

  • Finding a school / sponsor
  • Determining your audience
  • Logistics -- the gnarly details
  • Advertising! -- getting kids to join the club
  • Structuring your club -- finding a format that works
  • Running the club -- club content & sustainability
