How to check out CDs from us

As of 01/2004, all corpora and software CDs and DVDs (yep, and some old floppies) are stored in the linguistics department's chair's office. You can check out CDs by following the steps listed below. Please be aware that, even though the department is a member of the LDC, replacement of a single CD costs about $100.00. So, please treat the CDs carefully and, first of all, bring them back.

  1. Send an email to the corpus TA and to Coco (Coco can't give you the CDs if she doesn't see that the corpus TA has been cc-ed).
  2. The email should contain a list of all CDs that you want to borrow. The email should contain some phrase indicating that you acknowledge to inform yourself about the license conditions of all corpora/software that you will borrow. You can do this by copying the following blurb into your email.
I will inform myself about any copyright restrictions that hold for the corpora/the software I borrow from the department. I recognize that it is my responsibility to do so. I will also follow all guidelines outlined by user agreements (if there are any) of any corpus I will use.
  3. When you check out the CDs, sign out what you check out in the folder (blue) that you will find in the same shelf as the CDs. If you did not provide is with a list in your email you will have to sign the check-out folder for every single CD you take (which is very annoying =). If you send us a list in advance it is ok to just sign for all CDs at once (but fill in the number of CDs you borrow).
  4. Please bring back the CDs within 2-3 weeks. Don't forget to sign in again, so that you won't be the one who officially still has a CD checked out while someone else already lost it.
