Overview

In addition to the obvious resources (i.e. faculty and other students) for advice regarding your corpus-based research, the Stanford Linguistics department has a two other sources of support for your work. The Corpus TA is the primary contact if you have questions regarding the accessibility of corpora, corpus-tools, and other corpus-related resources at Stanford. In addition, we maintain an email list for discusison of corpus related research at Stanford.

In case our collection of corpora and corpus-tools does not contain what you need, consider the information found on ordering corpora or corpus-software.

The Corpus TA

Corpus TA? What is that? The Corpus TA maintains the department's collection of corpora, installs corpora and software, and provides support to members of the linguistics department (this includes students taking classes in the linguistics department). If you want to register for any of the corpora-related services (e.g. AFS access) please contact the Corpus TA (after reading the relevant information on this site). A more precise job description of the Corpus TA and the plan for the 2003-2004 academic year is also available.

If you have questions how to start your research (e.g. how to formulate a search within a specific search language), how to access the corpora of your interest, etc. we encourage you to contact the Corpus TA. Hopefully, most of what you need can be found on these pages (please have a look and browse around).

The corpora@csli.stanford.edu email list

Why a corpus list? Don't we have enough to read? Probably yes. Anyway, the list has two main purposes. It allows the Corpus TA to send you information about new corpora (at Stanford), new tools (at Stanford), fancy events like tutorials (at .. you get the idea), or anything else the Corpus TA consider relevant to keep you updated about corpora@stanford without spamming the entire department. But also, and more importantly, it is intended as a forum for you to share information with each other on corpora-related resources. Feel free to to direct your questions, ideas, requests, etc. to a community of local researchers that are interested in corpora. We encourage you to discuss anything corpus-related that you think may be of interest to others or to ask questions regarding your corpus-based research. The list will also serve Members are encouraged to `advertise' the resources they find useful, and to post and answer related questions on the list.
