The Barnabite order occupied the building to the right of their church, S. Carlo ai Catinari (1). This large, domed church, like S. Andrea della Valle, Plate 134, was built on the model of the Gesù, Plate 135, in first half of the 17th century. It stands on what was a triangular piazza at the convergence of Via dei Falegnami (3) on the left, and Via di S. Maria del Pianto (4) on the right. As Vasi points out in the subtitles, Via dei Falegnami leads to Piazza Mattei (NN 1016) with the Mattei family palaces (5) Plate 78, while Via di S. Maria del Pianto leads to Piazza Giudea, Plate 29, now barely recognizable due to the demolition of the Jewish Ghetto in the 1880s. Facing S. Carlo, at the right edge of the print is the 17th century Palazzo Santacroce (NN 740). The buildings facing us on the piazza as well as the Bennedictine monastery (2) attached to the church of S. Anna were demolished in the 1890s to make way for Via Arenula.
