Stanford Summer Symphony
The Stanford Summer Symphony is one of three orchestras, along with the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Philharmonia, sponsored by the Stanford Department of Music. The Summer Symphony rehearses twice weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:30pm, for five weeks beginning in late June, with its concert on the last Friday of July. The 2025 Stanford Summer Symphony, conducted by Paul Phillips, has approximately 95 members. It began rehearsals on Tuesday, 24 June 2025 and will perform its concert on Saturday, 26 July 2025 at 7:30pm in Bing Concert Hall. Anyone interested in playing in the 2025 Stanford Summer Symphony should fill out the Participation Form and use this link to sign up for an audition.
Members of the Stanford Summer Symphony include Stanford undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, high school students enrolled in the Stanford Summer Session, and community members. Stanford affiliation is not required for membership, which is determined by audition and is open to musicians of all ages. Auditions for the 2025 SSS took place over Zoom in May and June.
Stanford students who auditioned in Fall 2024 generally will not be required to re-audition for the Summer Symphony; auditions will only be required for prospective Summer Session students, community members, and any Stanford students or Stanford-affiliated individuals who did not audition earlier in the year. Any questions about the 2025 Stanford Summer Symphony should be emailed to orchestra@stanford.edu.
