SP and SSO play new arrangements of Grateful Dead songs with Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros
On January 22, the combined musicians of Stanford Philharmonia and the Stanford Symphony Orchestra played for two reading sessions of Grateful Dead songs that they rehearsed with Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack. Professor Giancarlo Aquilanti has composed arrangements of 20 Grateful Dead songs designed to be performed by the band plus full symphony orchestra. Paul Phillips conducted the sessions in Bing Concert Hall, which included readings of “Uncle John’s Band”, “Dark Star”, “Jack Straw”, and other Grateful Dead hits written by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and others.
