Stanford Philharmonia Performs at the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts
Over Spring Break, Stanford Philharmonia traveled to Bermuda to perform at the 2022 Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts. Led by music director Paul Phillips, the concerts featured violinists Roger Xia ’24 and Richard Cheung ’24 performing Symphonie Concertante in G Major by the Chevalier de Saint-Georges (March 24), Stanford alumna Caroline Campbell performing a program of works featuring her world-renowned violin virtuosity (March 25), and Concerto Competition winner Ethan Chi ’22 performing the Piano Concerto in A Minor by Edvard Grieg (March 26).
During their visit to Bermuda, the musicians of Stanford Philharmonia also performed for nursing home residents. Additionally, they worked with Bermuda string students and gave a side-by-side performance with them of music by Florence Price, Gustav Holst, and Edvard Grieg.
This trip was the first tour by a Stanford orchestra since the Stanford Symphony Orchestra’s tour to Mexico and Cuba in 2017, and the first trip abroad by any Stanford instrumental ensemble since 2018. All of these works were also performed at the Bermuda Festival, along with many more.
