Stats 117: Introduction to Probability

John Duchi, Stanford University, Spring 2026

Lectures

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:30 - 10:20 AM. Shriram 104

Tutorials and Sections

This quarter, we will be evaluating two modes of instruction beyond the standard lectures, which we term tutorials and sections. Sections will be similar to those in which you've likely participated in the past: a TA will lead either through a problem solving session or a concept session. The tutorials are a new (and old, as they've been doing them in England for a few hundred years) idea that we will be testing, and will involve going through homework material in nearly 1-on-1 interactions with the TAs. We will randomize students into tutorials and sections during the first week of class; we emphasize that the assignment into tutorial or section will be completely random: precisely half the class will participate in tutorials, and half in sections.

Sections

Each section will be either a problem solving section, where you work through solving problems related to the course material together, or a concept section, which will be a bit higher level.
