Website Hosting
In computing, a web host is the computer (or series of computers) that store and serve the web content from a website.
There are many, many web hosting companies in existance. To get an idea as to how many there are, visit ICANN's domain name registrar list (most registrars are also hosting companies):

You may already have website hosting through your Internet Service Provider or place of employment. Often they will give you a certain amount of disk space to play with on the web.
For this class, we will be using a free web host called Byet.host.
Note: neither Stanford University nor Continuing Studies supports or endorses Byet.host in any way. We are simply using them because they are free, and they are one of the few website hosting organizations to allow people to install WordPress instances for free.
