Course Information
Class
Room 200-105, Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15 - 5:30 p.m.
Coursework
During the first half of the course (April), we will review selected parts
of conceptual strategy literature and introduce some useful analytical
techniques from marketing and economics. See the schedule
for a list of lecture topics and readings. Three short homework assignments
will highlight the potential contributions and shortcomings of these approaches.
Midway through the quarter, project teams will present their topics and
proposed analytical approaches and submit a short report. Each project
team will meet individually with the professor and course assistant after
the proposal presentation and again towards the end of the quarter.
A final presentation and report will be due by early June.
Pre-Requisites
A good understanding of the MS&E core concepts is essential, particularly
those from decision analysis, economics, and optimization. Some background
in finance and/or marketing research is also helpful, but not required.
Presentation and technical writing skills are also required.
Grading
Grades will be based on the following scoring system. All grades
other than attendance will be awarded on a group basis.
