The next more serious treatment option is injection of cortisone (a steroidal anti-inflammatory) directly into the carpal tunnel tissues. The cortisone will reverse the inflammation of the tendons and relieve the CTS. This injection can be a one-time cure to CTS. If the symptoms do recur, injection can be repeated, not more than once every six weeks. If repeated injections fail to permanently relieve the CTS, surgery may be considered.
