Our lectures are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30-11:20AM, Pacific time, in Hewlett 200.
We have scheduled our lecture to meet in the largest room available on campus, and there will be the following attendance policy for on-campus students:
- Attendance will be taken electronically at the start of the class. You will need a smartphone equipped with a camera, or you will be able to sign in at the front of the hall. If you arrive late, there will be an opportunity to sign in after class has ended.
- You will be allowed to miss up to four (4) lectures without penalty. Every additional missed lecture will decrease your overall percentage for the class by 1%, up to 5%.
- Attendance is required for a number of reasons:
- It will allow you to participate in class discussion and in-class activities, to ask your questions real-time, and ensures that you are keeping on pace with the course schedule.
- You need to be prepared for your weekly section. We have found that in the past, without requiring attendance, too many students are not prepared for section, and this disrupts the flow of the section and the flow of the class in general.
Common questions about lectures
How is lecture participation graded?
Attendance will be taken electronically, and you must be present in the lecture hall to complete the sign-in.
- 5% of the course grade is allocated for lecture attendance.
- We will start counting lecture attendance on Monday of week 2
- You are allowed to miss up to four (4) lectures.
- At the end of the quarter, we will calculate your total course grade including the 5% attendance. Every lecture missed beyone four will result in 1% being deducted from the lecture attendance grade.
Are lectures recorded?
The autumn quarter offering of CS106B will be recorded for our CGOE remote participants. Those video recordings are also available to regular on-campus for review or for one of your up-to-four missed classes. It usually takes about 2-3 hours after the end of class for the videos to post to Canvas, where they will appear under Panopto Course Videos. There is no live synchronous remote viewing.
