IUC Professional Tutorials
The IUC offers a custom-designed tutorials program in advanced Japanese for scholars and professionals.
The purpose of this program is to support scholars who seek advanced language training (for specific research purposes or otherwise), and professionals who seek the highest level of Japanese fluency in support of their career goals.
The program is designed for those whose Japanese language skills are at the JLPT N2 level or above.
Admission
Program options: (1 unit = 50 minutes)
Summer (June through August): 2-4 units per week (24-48 units)
Fall (September through November): 2-4 units per week (24-48 units)
Winter (December through February): 2-4 units per week (24-48 units)
Spring (March through May): 2-4 units per week (24-48 units)
Instruction takes place at the Inter-University Center in Yokohama on weekdays between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm in principle. However, dates, times and venue for tutorials will be negotiable through consultation between the applicant and the IUC faculty. Online instruction using Skype would also be negotiable.
Decisions concerning admission will be made on the basis of the applicant’s qualifications, stated objectives, and the availability of suitable instructors at the Inter-University Center. Decisions will be announced at least six weeks before the beginning of the term.
Attendance Fees
2023–24 Tuition: ¥15,000 or $150 per unit (¥10,000 or $100 for IUC alumni)
2024–25 Tuition: ¥17,000 (¥12,000 for IUC alumni)

Persons admitted to professional tutorials are responsible for making their own visa and transportation arrangements. Housing arrangements are also the responsibility of the individual applicant; the Center cannot provide assistance in locating housing or in making arrangements for rental.
