SCPD Students

Adapted from Nick Troccoli's 106A SCPD handout

Welcome to CS106B! We are happy to have you in the course this quarter. Since many SCPD students are off-campus, there are several aspects of CS106B that are slightly different for SCPD students than for on-campus students, as described below.

Lecture

SCPD students can watch lectures remotely on Canvas, or stop by lecture in person if they're in the area. SCPD students can receive lecture attendance credit by filling out the Gradescope attendance tickets by the following Sunday at 11:59pm PT.

Section

Because many SCPD students are off-campus, we offer a few remote discussion sections. Fill out the section signup form and indicate you are SCPD and you will be assigned a virtual section! If you need to attend a different virtual section from your assigned one, you can contact that section leader - look for an email called "CS106B SCPD Section and Attendance Policies" from Elyse for more information. If you're on campus on a given week, you're welcome to stop by another section in person.

Assignments

The process for working on and submitting assignments is identical for both regular and SCPD students.

Office Hours and LaIR

All SCPD students are given access to the virtual LaIR, which is conducted at the same time as in-person LaIR. Use the same signup link form the website and indicate you would like to be in the virtual queue. A note for other students reading: this option is only available to SCPD students.

Additionally, please feel free to email your SL for any questions you may have about assignments, logistics, etc.; they are your primary point of contact for the course.

Exams

Exams are administered by your registered SCPD exam monitor. You will have a 24-hour window from the start of the on-campus exam in which to begin the exam, and you will have the same alloted exam time (2 hours for the midterm exam, 3 hours for the final exam). For example, the on-campus midterm is on 7/17 from 7-9pm PT, so you must start your exam between 7/17 at 7pm and 7/18 at 7pm PT, and you'll have 2 hours to complete the exam. Please contact Amrita and Elyse ASAP if this will present any scheduling issues.

You may also take exams at the on-campus; if you’d like to do this, please email Elyse and Amrita for each exam to let us know you will be taking the exam on campus. Note that, per SCPD guidelines, you still need a registered exam monitor even if you will be taking the exam on campus. In this case, you may list the course instructors as your monitor if you'd like.

After they are graded, exams will be returned to you electronically via Gradescope as with regular exams.
