Below is a message from the Stanford Rugby Foundation about this year’s Reunion Weekend:

Reunion weekend is fast approaching. For those who will be returning to Campus this October 13-14, we invite you to stop by Stanford’s incredible Rugby facilities. On Saturday, prior to the football game, the John Doyle Family Club House will be open with memorabilia commemorating over 100 years of Stanford Rugby on display. On Hal Steuber Stadium field, there will be activities planned in which children of alumni may participate, supervised by current Cardinal Ruggers, while their parents make the rounds at the many tailgate gatherings. The Club House and Field will be closed once the football game is underway, but will reopen on Sunday at 11:00AM when Rugby alums will gather to play touch, visit with friends and teammates and share stories of their legendary accomplishments, and enjoy a BBQ and appropriate beverages.

Stanford Rugby has become the largest student athletic organization on campus, including both varsity and club sports. The men’s and women’s program is funded almost entirely by the Stanford Rugby Foundation. This year has been a successful fund raising year thanks to the generous donations of many loyal rugby alumni. However, the Foundation must grow in order to maintain the program. Income from the Foundation covers the annual budget for team transportation, equipment, dues for the local rugby union, a trainer and one of the best coaching staffs in U.S. Rugby.

In addition, the Don Bunce Memorial Fund provides discretionary funding to Head Coach Jonathan Griffin to offset some of the expenses incurred by those Stanford Ruggers invited to compete for select-side selection, including the U.S. National team and U.S. Collegiate All-Americans. Thanks to the Bunce Fund, Stanford Rugby has been able to support many student-athletes who have earned select side recognition, most recently, Jossy Tseng for selection to the U.S. Women’s “Eagles” National side and Patrick Danahy for Collegiate All-American honors, including selection of Pat to start on the All-American team facing the touring Oxford University side. For further information of Stanford Ruggers earning U.S. and Pacific Coast selection, visit the Rugby Foundation’s season ending recognition letter on www.stanfordrugby.org

Take pride in your past glory days with Stanford Rugby by contributing to the Stanford Rugby Foundation to ensure that future generations of student athletes are able to enrich their Stanford experience by their participation in Stanford Rugby, memories that, like yours, will last their lifetimes.

Stanford University generously recognizes your contributions allocated to Stanford Rugby and the Don Bunce Memorial Fund as part of your total reunion gift pledge.

The Stanford Rugby Board wishes you a terrific reunion weekend and greatly appreciates your ongoing support.
