Due: Weekly on Tuesdays 1:00PM PDT (unless otherwise noted)
Small questions to help you stay on track and organize your thoughts.
These short concept checks have two learning goals: (1) Keep on-track with the course material, and (2) Help us understand your conceptual strengths and weaknesses. This exercise is meant to be SHORT (provided you have kept on top of the material). Keep in mind that beign comfortable this exercise are necessary but not sufficient for solving the problem sets -- in other words, knowing these concepts is a good first step towards working through problem sets, but you will need to learn these concepts and more to succeed.
It is okay to make mistakes on any concept check question. Your submission will be reviewed by the CA in charge of your section, so that your CA can better address student misconceptions during weekly section. We just want to see that you are staying paced with the material. This means that no late submissions for any concept check will be accepted.
If you find yourself spending more than an hour answering the questions on this form, please come to office hours! There might be some conceptual misunderstandings that are best explained in person, and we are here to help.
Honor Code: Feel free to use any resources at hand: consult the textbook/lecture notes, research on the internet, discuss with classmates, ask the teaching staff. However, you must write up your own answers.
Submissions are via the Google Form links posted on the Schedule page. Your answers can be in ANY format (phrases, sentences, ASCII art, etc.). We are not expecting pages and pages; 2-3 sentences is more than enough for most of these questions.
We will only grade the last submission you turn in-–meaning that you can submit the concept check after each corresponding lecture.
Unless otherwise noted, the deadline to submit your answers for Week $N$ is the following Week $N+1$, Tuesday at 1:00PM PDT. For example, you must submit the concept check for the material from Week 2 by latest Tuesday, 1:00PM PDT, on Week 3. The submission portal closes after this time, so please take note!!
There are no extensions for any concept checks. All late submissions will receive no credit.
This quarter's deadlines (note Week 8's concept check deadline is the first Sunday of Thanksgiving break):
All concept check grades are equally weighted. Your concept checks and your section grade count towards your 5% participation grade.
Concept checks are graded on completion. As long as we see that you have tried, you will receive full credit, even if the answer is incorrect. You will not receive more credit for correct answers.
